In 2025, the CNC Toolmaking Program added an internship to the curriculum to help students gain real-world experience and develop the practical skills they had gained during their first year at SPC. In three semesters, the program aims to have students ready to enter the industry the day after graduation.

The first internship semester delivered strong results. Ninety-five percent of graduating CNC Toolmaking students already had jobs. In 2026, we want to build on this success. An overwhelming number of companies reached out for interns, but there were too many for our current class. We put the choice back in the students’ hands by opening an internship fair in the shop. The first companies to contact SPC were given a table where students could learn about available internships. After a bit of coaching, the students knocked it out of the park. Everyone left the internship fair ready to contact the companies and schedule tours and interviews.

Adding an internship to the CNC Toolmaking Program has better prepared students for the job market upon graduation. The program has also strengthened students’ confidence and enthusiasm as technicians and as adults.
For anyone interested in hands-on learning, building valuable industry connections, or developing in-demand skills, the CNC Toolmaking Program offers a practical path forward. Consider whether this experience aligns with your career goals and interests.
